Florida ambulance provider EVAC has settled a $5 million lawsuit with a local woman whose son was born two months prematurely while in an ambulance during a transfer between two hospitals. Margaritia Stivers Chess was being transferred from Bert Fish Medical Center to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children when her son was born in 2004. He now suffers from cerebral palsy. A class-action lawsuit has been filed against a Detroit doctor, accusing him of falsely diagnosing hundreds of children with epilepsy in order to increase his pay at Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center. The lawsuit claims that Dr. Yasser Awaad improperly diagnosed the children so he could perform a certain operation on them that, as part of his contract with the hospital, netted him extra money in his paycheck. The phone rings….it is an attorney that is handling a personal injury case. An eighteen wheeler hit some black ice and jack knifed on an Interstate that runs through the Great Plains states. In the process, a mini-caravan is hit. There was a family of four in the vehicle, with only two survivors. The mother died on impact, and so did the young toddler in the back seat of the vehicle.
