I have mentioned on more than one occasion that I have a latex allergy which is one of the reasons I left the bedside. I recently learned of the Exceptional Nurse, a site dedicated to assisting nurses with disabilities. Several resources are available for those like me with latex allergies.

As someone with a latex allergy, I can certainly relate to this article. I worked as a dental assistant prior to attending nursing school. My hands broke out regularly and I often had conjunctivitis. We assumed it was the powder used in the gloves. We changed brands often which seemed to help, but did not resolve my problems. Powderless gloves were eventually offered, but they were difficult to wear particularly for long procedures. I attended my first clinical rotation in 1991.
