Virtual Consults or Meeting Patients Online

For me social media is the great connector. While there may be downsides with regard to surgeons linking up with patients on line, there are also many positives. Just as with any other form of communication, honesty is the key. That, and being realistic about what can be accomplished in this type of on-line encounter.
The New York Times published an article recently about the virtual consult by plastic surgeons. I know many women “of a certain age” who are interested in a little nip or tuck or more, but are reluctant to make an appointment. They may not want to have a consult without some idea of the costs involved, a realistic idea of what to expect outcome-wise, and feeling some sense of connectedness to the surgeon.
I checked out the surgeonhousecall.com site mentioned in this article, and found it to be very informative, even though I did not go all the way with it by requesting an online consult (note: there is an expense involved of $50 to get an online consultation at this particular site).
Naturally, any surgery carries risks, and the research shouldn’t begin and end on-line, but all things considered, this could be an interesting way to start the process.
