Frog Legs

4 August 2009 8 views No Comment

Brullie, is the first frog in the world to ever be fitted with a false leg.  If he weren’t recovering in a hospital in South Africa, he would surely get up and take a bow! Read on and be amazed at the wonders of modern science.

According to news sources, Brullie, a giant bullfrog, shattered his lower leg bone after being bitten by a dog. His owner Anne Mearns, is a wildlife expert.

“I couldn’t bear to see him in so much pain. Frogs are famous for their legs, so the thought of Brullie being left lame broke my heart.”

She rushed him to the vet and begged them to operate. The vet eventually agreed.

frog-legsBrullie’s x-rays indicate that he soon will be good as new.

Surgery lasted a few hours!  Brullie was put to sleep by rubbing a tiny dose of watered-down dog anesthetic into his porous skin. The surgeon performed an ORIF (open reduction internal fixation) by inserting a tiny steel rod over the fractured right leg bone.

I wondered what that cost, but then read that the surgeon did it for free! Must have been one frog lovin’ surgeon!
