Case: Schubert v. Target Stores, Inc., No. 08-921, 2/26/09

Facts: J.B. Hunt Transport had a contractual agreement with Target Stores for Hunt’s drivers to transport Target’s goods. Part of the agreement required Hunt to provide workers’ compensation coverage in the event that one of Hunt’s employees became injured while transporting Target’s goods.

Attorney, Jonathan LeBlanc of Dallas Personal Injury Law Blog recently posted several awards which have been handed down recently.  In an amputation case in Dallas County a man who lost all four limbs in a medical malpractice case was awarded $17,724,650.  A cap on non-economic damages will reduce the recovery to just under $7 million.  This is just one more example to support what I stated previously regarding the sensational headlines and media misrepresentation.

March 31, 2009 is Medical Device Patient Lobby Day in Washington, DC.  Attorney Tom Lamb shared in his blog that the Campaign to Stop Corporate Immunity (CSCI) group is arranging for patients injured by defective medical devices to let our Representatives and Senators see why they should vote in support of the Medical Device Safety Act.

Three new styles of the popular shoe, Crocs, are now being manufactured; the Fuze, Fuse Vent and Energy.  The shoes have been banned in some hospitals and medical centers due to reports that they can cause static electricity discharges which might damage medical equipment.  These new styles are targeted at the medical sector, food industry and laboratories.  They are antimicrobial and are reported to reduce fatigue in the legs and back.  I can’t say for sure as I have never owned a pair. [gasp!]
