Work Comp: Benefits

Many of my patients wonder what their benefits consist of when filing a workers compensation claim. While benefits vary from state to state the most important thing to remember is that the injury must occur in the course and scope of employment. Not all employees are covered by workers compensation insurance, but more are. A claims adjuster can provide additional information if you are unsure if your employee is covered or not. The adjuster is also the one who makes the determination if an injury is deemed as having occurred in the course and scope of their employment.
Typically if an employee is injured whiel on the job, they are entitled to payments for:
- Medical bills
- Medications
- In patient rehabilitation (if required)
- Outpatient rehabilitation such as physical or occupational therapy
- Home health services (if required)
- Hospital bills
- Lost wages
- Mileage (round trip) in association with medical treatment
- Permanent impairment that arises from the injury
These guidelines are typical for most states including Arkansas. If you are in another state, or for the most current information, be sure to check with your state workers compensation commission.
