If you are poor or old or both and on a Government Funded Healthcare plan typically you will be receiving inferior care from doctors.  The doctors you see are getting paid at levels that border on volunteer work since the premiums and reimbursements the government pay is so low.  In fact, the system is so antiquated that doctors (i.e. internists) many times forgo prescribing additional help for the elderly in order to steer clear of having to deal with the paperwork, regulations, and consistent rejections of recommended care.

In working with Workers Compensation patients, I often manage patients diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).  This condition occurs when the median nerve becomes squeezed at the wrist. The carpal tunnel – a narrow, rigid passageway of ligament and bones at the base of the hand - houses the median nerve and tendons. Sometimes, thickening from irritated tendons or other swelling narrows the tunnel and causes the median nerve to be compressed. The result may be pain, weakness, or numbness in the hand and wrist, radiating up the arm.

Minnesota’s attorney general, Lori Swanson, has filed a suit against Allina Hospital & Clinics accusing the healthcare group of charging excessive interest to patients with unpaid medical bills.  According to a statement from Ms. Swanson, some patients were charged interest up to 18%.  The lawsuit seeks refunds for patients who have paid excessive interest charges.
