25 Random Things

After having been repeatedly tagged on Facebook, I decided to give in and write my list.  I have decided to included it herein for my Twitter fans and others.

In no particular order, here we go…..

1. I was born at Saline Memorial Hospital on Mother’s Day in 1967. Every time my birthday falls on a Sunday it is always Mother’s Day as well.

2. I have lived in Benton my entire life and I am currently in my third house on the same street since 1976. I just keep moving to a new, larger home, but I think I am out of land now. This house might just have to be my retirement home.

3. I have married, and divorced, and married, etc. You get the idea. I am currently married to the man of my dreams. Robert Powell from California (and south Arkansas) who is 8 years my senior.

4. Robert & I met online and talked via internet for nearly 7 weeks before we ever met in person. Within a year we were married.

5. We married at the Old Mill Wedding Chapel in Hot Springs in a fabulous ceremony with family and friends. The chapel was decorated in Victorian style complete with water wheel, wooden bridge, etc. The reception was held there too and included tons of balloons, chocolate kiss roses and dancing. Robert’s song, to which he entered the chapel was Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” to boisterous laughter from the attendees.

6. I love to travel and did not even know that until Robert & I met. Our first trip was to Memphis to visit Graceland and the zoo, but it was only the beginning of our trips.

7. We try to cruise once a year every year on our anniversary. We have been to San Juan, St. Thomas, St. John, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, St. Maarten, Jamaica, Costa Maya, Cancun, New Orleans, Galveston, Key West, Curacao, Roaton, Belize, and maybe more. We are planning a European Cruise in a few years.

8. We have also traveled to Japan. It was very interesting and I learned a lot, but it is definitely not a place I would like to live and even after visiting only once I don’t care to return for another visit.

9. I love tech gadgets. My husband started this obsession and I don’t know how it will ever end. Between the desktop with dual portrait style monitors, laptop, mini netbook, GPS, smartphone, Zune, iPod, HP travel companion, noise canceling headphones, card readers, voltage inverter for my car, etc, etc. We can’t go anywhere without tons of cords and heaven forbid if the power goes out!

10. I have four children; two girls and two boys and all but the baby have left home. The oldest boy, Johnathan, lives in Fayetteville, the eldest girl, Susan, is married and lives with her husband, Rob, in Newport News, Virginia, youngest girl, Lacy, is married and lives in Ward with her husband, Alan. The youngest boy, John-Michael, still lives at home and is a junior at Benton High.

11. I have four grandchildren who range in age from Noah who is 10, Evie age 4, Francesca age 2, and Caitlin age six months.

12. I am a registered nurse and graduated from Baptist in 1994. I started nursing school when my youngest was only 15 days old.

13. My favorite color is green. I even have green concrete floors in my home.

14. My husband is an artist and has created some incredible murals in our home including a psychedelic room for Lacy’s former bedroom complete with black light activated artwork.

15. We tend to collect musical instruments though none of us play regularly. We have a flute (niece is currently borrowing), clarinet, tenor sax, bass guitar, trumpet, two electric guitars, drum set, and even a grand piano.

16. I have been sky-diving and loved it. I would love to go again some time.

17. Hang-gliding and a ride in a hot air balloon are on my “bucket list.”

18. I have been para-sailing in Key West.

19. I have owned 9 vehicles and 6 of them were new though I grew up thinking I would never own a new vehicle.

20. I collect miniature perfume bottles which have the same shape as the original or that are in some way usual. At last count I had over 100 with some of the more unusual to include a mouse, Eiffel tower, a foot and shoe, a Christmas ornament, a tiny panther, and many more.  I have run out of places to put them despite several glass cases.

21. I sold greeting cards and wrapping paper door-to-door after reading an ad in the back of Mad Magazine when I was in elementary school. I sold enough to earn a microscope and a backpackers type backpack.

22.The microscope started my desire to work in the medical field which ran the gamut from scientist, orthodontist, psychiatrist, to finally nurse.

23. I have advanced certifications in Legal Nurse Consulting, Life Care Planning, Medicare Set Aside Allocations, Ergonomics and Case Management. I would like to continue with Forensic nursing and geriatric care management and special needs trusts.

24. I really want to publish a book. I started on a few years ago, but never finished it. Now I am lucky to get a few things into my blog each week so a book seems like a daunting task. It is also on my “bucket list.”

25. I have found that as I get older, I enjoy life so much more. I am very happy with my life, home, health, work and I am so grateful for my church, friends and family. I strive to learn something new everyday and hope that my husband and I will continue to grow old together.
