Robots May be Used for Assistance with the Elderly/Disabled
An interesting article in Yahoo News this week tells of the uBOT-5 that can monitor the home and sense trouble such as a fall. The robot also allows a family member to operate the robot by using an internet connection and perform tasks, send reminders, even help with the gardening. “ Right now, the prototypes at UMass cost $65,000 apiece, but Grupen envisions a day when commercial versions would be sold for $5,000 plus a monthly Internet hook-up fee, much like today’s computers.”
