Nurses are no longer the submissive handmaiden, but now established as a powerful and educated profession. A majority of ER patients are discharged without any understanding of the treatment they received or how to care for themselves once they get home. This can lead to medical errors and more complications that send them right back into the ER.
A study was done of 140 patients discharged from two ER hospitals in Michigan. They were asked about their understanding in four different areas – their treatment, at home care instructions, diagnosis, and signs of when to return to ER. The study found that 78 percent did not understand some …

Neil Folmer was injured at work when he was hit in the face by a box of crowbars while unloading a truck in 1995. He filed a claim for disability benefits which was granted in 1998 stating he was totally disabled by positional vertigo, cervical disc syndrome or cervical myalgia and tension headaches. This determination was based on a treating chiropractor’s statement that a 1996 MRI showed a small central disc protrusion and that Folmer’s vertigo was caused by compression of the 8th cranial nerve.
