Heathcare and our financial crisis

How do you feel this current financial crisis will affect your busines?  I have been glued to the news lately as this financial crisis plays out.  It should make us all think about the effect this will have on us in the healthcare field.  A recent article by Andrea Santiago, of About.com suggested that while heathcare is essentially recession proof, we are certainly not immune to the crisis.  Santiago suggests that areas of healtcare including student loans, clinical research, recruiting, and non-profit organizations will be directly affected by this crisis.  I tend to agree.

As a business owner I know that I will have some belt tightening to do.  This will be required not only for cash flow purposes, but also because the odds of obtaining a loan for a small business will be highly unlikely.  If the business requires a major purchase there will not be funds available to to obtain a loan so I think it is wise to remain in a cash basis.  The question remains if this will be possible longterm.

One advantage of our business is the case management service.  I feel this will continue to be a major source of our income.  Case Managers can work to reserve carriers resources, improve satisfaction for the patients, and insure better compliance with medical treatments.

If you have specific plans for your heathcare business, let me know your ideas.  Comment or @vpmedical me.
