Bristol-Myers Squibb and a former subsidiary have agreed to pay $515 million to 43 states and the federal government to settle accusations stemming from the marketing of antipsychotic drugs. Investigators alleged that the drug makers wrongly marketed antipsychotic medicines to children and dementia patients, made illegal payments to doctors and overpriced drugs.  AP, Boston Globe  07/20/2008

Nurse Builders (Louise Jakubik, DNSc, CRNP, APRN-BC) is holding the first Nursing Certification Review Symposium November 5 and 6, 2008 in Daytona Beach, Florida where they will bring together five certification review courses of which one is in Legal Nurse Consulting.The Legal Nurse Consultant (LNCC) Certification Review Course will be taught by Patricia Iyer, MSN, RN, LNCC and Rose Clifford, RN, LNCC.

A California jury on Thursday declined to award damages to a family that claimed Children’s Motrin left their daughter legally blind. Jurors found that the plaintiffs had not sufficiently proved that Children’s Motrin was to blame for the girl’s injuries. The family had contended that Johnson & Johnson failed to adequately warn that the medicine’s active ingredient, ibuprofen, could cause a rare allergic reaction known as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome.
