Podiatrist Performs Breast Exam!

by admin on June 30, 2008

Was Fresno foot doctor Matthew Sciaroni just doing his job when he conducted breast examinations and checked the lymph nodes in female patients’ groin areas? Or was it part of a long pattern of molesting women and girls under the guise of being a good doctor?

According to the Fresno Bee Sciaroni, 53, is on trial, charged with nine felonies, including child molestation and sexual battery. A jury began deliberations Tuesday in Fresno County Superior Court. If convicted, the podiatrist faces up to seven years in prison.

Smith doesn’t dispute that Sciaroni conducted breast examinations on some of his adult female patients, but he said they were for legitimate medical reasons.
[Are you kidding me??]

Some of the women testified that Sciaroni also tried to kiss them. One woman said that when she was a teenager, the doctor smacked her on the buttocks as she was leaving the office. The Bee is not identifying the women because they are alleged victims of sexual assault.

Ultimately, one of the patients, a teenager who saw Sciaroni for more than five years and is now an adult, called police after Sciaroni tried to kiss her, she testified. After news media reported the doctor’s arrest, seven other women contacted police and said they, too, were touched inappropriately.

Much of the trial centered on four podiatrists who testified as expert witnesses. Three were hired by the prosecution to testify and one by the defense.

[And get this....]
Smith said the doctors offered conflicting opinions. Rutiaga said it seemed that only the defense’s expert helped Sciaroni’s case. He said Smith was trying to misconstrue the other doctors’ testimony.

Sciaroni, who has practiced medicine since 1986, was investigated in 2000 by the California Department of Consumer Affairs, which issues licenses for doctors, dentists, contractors and others. He was accused of improper contact with patients and was placed on probation for five years. As a condition of his probation, Sciaroni was required to have a staff member in the room whenever he examined a patient.

Old story…but the facts are wrong. Attorney Smith NEVER admitted that Sciaroni did breast exams on ANY of his patients, and Sciaroni denied those charges when he testified in his behalf. The mother of the accuser was in the room on ALL patient visits, as was Sciaroni's medical assistant. The medical assistant denied any of the events described by the mother and her daughter. BTW, the mother is a convicted felon of insurance fraud and grand theft, a decision that was handed down only 5 months prior to them accusing Sciaroni. Checking lymph nodes for ascending infection is not only prudent, but appropriate and necessary in certain situations. Sciaroni never denied performing them. Further…what the jury never was allowed to see, was pictures of the accuser soliciting on the internet on Craigslist after she turned 18. The Board investigator never did, apparently, even a modicum of due diligence before arresting Sciaroni. None of the media printed the truth, even during the trial. The jury only took 5 hours to acquit Sciaroni on ALL charges. No breast exams…get the facts right before perpetrating lies.

Dr. Sciaroni had a chaperone present during all of his examinations with this patient. The patients' mother was also present during all examinations. (Dr. Sciaroni, as he testified, never performed any breast examination as stated in this blog). The mother was a convicted felon, accused with fourteen (14) counts of felony insurance fraud and grand theft and was convicted 5 months prior to her accusations against Dr. Sciaroni. The “victim”, after she turned eighteen, was soliciting on Craigslist. The jury never saw the pictures of the victim in the 'erotic services' site, as they were “too prejudicial”. The Medical Board investigator, Brandon Shoemaker, arrested Dr. Sciaroni without ever running a make on the mother or daughter, and after interviewing Dr. Sciaroni's chaperone whom stated that these events never took place. Brandon Shoemaker has worked outside the law before while an investigator for the City of Selma Police force, and was sued in 2003 for false arrest, malicious prosecution and defamation of character. He is now running for District 31 State Assembly. At the very least, Brandon Shoemaker is incompetent, and is not political material that this State needs.

Wow! Thanks for the updated information. I knew he had been acquitted as reported in the reply from June. I would be happy to post some of your references here if you like.

Sciaroni has ben in trouble with the Board of Podiatric Medicine before. He accepted a stipulate probation settlement years ago after being fired from the Sablan Medical Clinic in Firebaugh for doing breast exams. He agreed that a Podiatrist should not do breast exams and to have a female chaperone present for female exams for 5 years. Now he is surprised again when he gets in trouble for doing breast exams. What a whacko. I wonder if he does rectal exams as well. People in the complex near his office at Saint Agness call him “The Pedophile”. I guess he's still mad the DA issued a warrant for his arrst on this one. A foot doctor doing breast exams. That's beyond stupid. Sciaroni feels he deserved special attention as a so called doctor. Mybe the cops should have arrested him by appointment like they do the rest of us.

Dr. Sciaroni never performed a breast exam on the patient out in the firebaugh Clinic. She submitted to being shown how to perform a SBE. Dr. Sciaroni admitted as such during testimony, and his expert witness, whom himself served on the Board for 5 years, and was President of the Board of Podiatric Medicine, testified that this was part of the training and was within the scope of practice. Dr. Scaironi denies ever performing a breast exam on any patient. Further, Dr. Scaironi had a CHAPERONE present in or just outside the room during these visits. The mother of the “victim” was an accused felon for insurance fraud, and the girl solicited on the IT as an “escort”. I know that Dr. Sciaroni still sees many St. Agnes employees as patients, so “drigliseas”, you are incorrect on every account and appear to have a serious problem yourself..

Did you know that the accusers were sisters and cousins from Firebaugh, CA. The family has other fraud investigations ongoing. The surgeon saved the foot of one of their fathers and made a mistake on a chart. The father sued and the surgeon's attorney said it would be cheaper to settle. Big mistake.

When they sued Sciaroni he was acquitted. The jury saw through their lies.

It is amazing the reporters did NOT investigate at the hospitals where Sciaroni performed his surgeries. If they had, they would have found out that no nurse would have said he ever touched them, kissed them – he didn't even make sexual jokes! He was always totally professional.

When you are a scientist and a surgeon you can't just operate on someone's foot. Any serious operation requires information about the whole body. Swollen lymph nodes as well as blood and urine tests give information.

Slanderers destroy reputations. Papers don't print acquittals – that's not news. Besides it would show the public the extent their reporters lack of effort.

This case was brought forward by the sole actions of Brandon Shoemaker-Medical Board Investigator. Brandon Shoemaker for Assembly 31 in California has a past, and it's not good.

Let's look at the facts.

It appears that Brandon Shoemaker was a Probation Officer on the westside of Fresno County, but did not get his contract renewed. What egregious action would prompt Brandon from not having his contract renewed?

Brandon Shoemaker Selma Police Department Investigator was sued for false arrest, defamation of character and malicious prosecution along with the City Manager and the City of Selma. The City settled for $50K, but what did it cost the City of Selma overall, just to get the case settled?

Brandon Shoemaker then, apparently to resurrect his career, “left” the city of selma Police Dept, to work in Iraq.

Brandon Shoemaker, Medical Board Investigator, then arrests Dr. Sciaroni at his office, and after contacting the local news agencies, even though doc was completely cooperative with his investigation, and Brandon had already talked to the doc's chaperone, who told him the events never occured. Brandon Shoemaker, Medical board Investigator never even investigated the “victim” whom was soliciting on the internet, or the mother who was a convicted felon of multiple insurance frauds.

Brandon Shoemaker for Assembly…was this arrest planned to launch his political career…at Dr. Sciaroni's expense? The trial of Dr. Sciaroni cost the taxpayers of Fresno County over $1M…we simply can't afford corrupt politicians.
