Orthostatic hypotension or postural hypotension is defined as a drop in systolic blood pressure of 20mm Hg or more, or a systolic pressure of less than 90mm Hg within three minutes of standing relative to blood pressure measured supine. The drop in systolic pressure may or may not be accompanied by symptoms such as lightheadedness, dizziness, weakness, nausea or syncope. Thomas and Karol Pace sued anesthesiologist Stephen Shuput, MD, after their daughter died following a relatively straightforward breast augmentation procedure. The suit was based upon the standard of care given to their daughter and, crucially, his decision to discharge her from hospital.
The Paces’ Defense team had instructed the services on an expert, anesthesiologist Barry N. Swerdlow, MD, who had made a deposition without first seeing the deposition of Dr Shuput.

However, a test has been developed by a psychologist which has rapidly gained approval by experts far and wide and which roots out such litigants.
