The American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS), along with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and the American Nurses Association (ANA), is proud to announce the recognition of the first Certified Nurses Day today, March 19!
Certified Nurses Day is a special day of recognition to celebrate the contribution of board certified nurses to the advancement of nursing professionalism and to higher standards and better outcomes in patient health. The coalition of coordinating organizations picked March 19th as the day to celebrate all certified nurses because it is the birthday of Gretta Styles. Known as the ‘Mother of Nurse Credentialing’ Gretta Styles was the architect of the first comprehensive study of nursing credentialing in the 1970s; she served as President of the American Nurses Association, the International Council of Nurses, the California Board of Registered Nursing and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
The American Legal Nurse Consultant Certification Board (ALNCCB) and American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC) would like to take this day to recognize all certified nurses within our membership. Recognizing the hard work and dedication it takes to become certified and maintain certification, we commend you for your contribution to the advancement of nursing practice and an improved quality of care for patients.
As a member of ABNS and administrators of the LNCC® exam, the ALNCCB would like to especially recognize all practicing LNCC’s. The Legal Nurse Consultant Certified exam is the only certification exam in the legal nurse consulting arena that is accredited by a national accrediting body. By setting and enforcing standards for certification, the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) seeks to protect the public and consumers through their mission to provide assurance to the public that the nurse holding the credential from an accredited certification program possesses the knowledge, skills and competency for quality practice in the specialty.
